To Ban Or Not To Ban: Bollywood Divided Over Boycott Of Pakistani Artistes
Here's the latest update from the world of Bollywood. We bet you wouldn't want to miss this. Read on for details... Who supports the ban and who doesn’t, we give you the tally
While the LoC between India and Pakistan remains tense,
Bollywood has already picked sides. The bone of contention is the call to ban
Pakistani artistes like Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan. After the Indian Motion
Picture Producers Association’s (IMPPA) announced that it will not work with
Pakistani actors until peace returns between India and Pakistan, the issue has
become a hot button topic in the industry. While some stars have condemned the ban;
others support it, while some others have chosen to occupy a comfortable middle
ground. SpotboyE.com gives you a lowdown on the issue, the sides and the
arguments.
Those Who’re Against The Ban:
Saif Ali Khan:
"This (cross cultural exchange) should definitely be encouraged. The industry is open to world talent, especially from across the border. But the government has to decide these things.

Karan Johar:
“I understand the anger and the anguish that surround us and I empathise, my
heart bleeds for the lost lives. There is nothing that can justify this
terrible feeling of terror. Then you are faced in a situation such as this (asking
for ban on Pakistani artistes). If this was truly a solution, then one would
take it.”
“But this is not a solution. I don’t believe it is. There
are larger forces that have to come together and sort the situation and this
cannot be banning talent or art.”

Salman Khan:
"They are artistes not terrorists. It’s the government who gives them
permits and visas."

Mahesh Bhatt:
Dear leaders do not let the actions of a few violent men write the future of
many people like me who want peace #KillTerroristsNotTalks #ProfileForPeace

Nagesh Kukunoor:
"I have always believed that art should stand alone. Even if you take the
worst periods in a nation's history, World War II, art still had its voice. I
don't think the two should be mixed. Having said that, the India-Pakistan
situation is an extremely complex one. We are all part of the same country.
60-70 years is a very short period to actually find some kind of peaceful
common ground," he said.

Riteish Deshmukh:
Artistes are like soft targets, which is very unfortunate. The concentration is
somewhere else & this is not the solution to it. If this was the solution
then fair enough, but this is not the solution.

Juhi Chawla:
We have gone out of our senses. The issues raised are showing we are just
trying to fix problems; we’re not taking them out from the roots. We have to
change from within.

Kailash Kher:
Banning or sending artistes back to Pakistan won’t serve any purpose, unless
they’re provoking any unpleasant emotions. Nobody belonging to the field of art
is spreading hatred.

Vikram Bhatt:
The ban is like trivialising the issue, wheter artistes or cricket should be
allowed or not ... how does that matter? What matters is that people are dying,
we have been constantly suffering ... and the only thing we do is ban artistes.

Hansal Mehta:
Here’s what he tweeted: MNS for next central govt. In one master stroke they
have solved the India Pakistan problem. After all it is artistes who provoke
attacks.

Bharti Singh:
I feel it’s really unfair to ban them from working in India ... They leave
their country and come here to earn bread and butter for their family. Yeh toh
wahi baat hogayi ki kisi ne daal jalayi toh main doosre ko bhi daal banana nahi
doongi.
